End-of-Life Psilocybin: A Conversation with Michael Kelly

March 12, 2026

Michael Kelly shares his journey into end-of-life psilocybin facilitation and why sitting with someone facing death has become his calling.

Michael Kelly has been a hospice volunteer for twenty years. When Oregon's psilocybin program opened, he was one of the first facilitators trained — and the work he was already doing at the bedside found a new dimension.

In this conversation, Michael describes what it's like to sit with someone facing the end of life, the unexpected steadiness that often comes through psilocybin, and why he believes this work is one of the most important applications of psychedelic-assisted therapy.

He talks about preparing clients for an experience they may not return from in the same shape, the role of family and loved ones in the journey, and how Meadow's physician-led model creates a safety net that lets him do the deep relational work without carrying the medical risk alone.
